Big largemouth and smallmouth bass continued to bite throughout the fall on West Okoboji. The bite did slow in mid-October but we were still picking up a few monsters along with a few walleyes and big gills. Kevin Will made the trip from Sioux City in Late october to pick up some big smallies and largemouth bass. The bite was slow but a few big ones decided to bite that day. I also picked up my two biggest bass I've ever caught on the Okoboji chain of lakes. In September I landed a 6-pound hawg and a 7-pound monster.
The bite the frist two weeks of July and last week of June have been my absolute best Walleye weeks on West Okoboji all year. Not to mention giant trophy bass like Scott and Kelsey caught from Denver, Colorado. Not as many yellow bass as in years bast.....but the Bluegill are plentiful and consistantly big. Leah Miller from Coralville, IA caught the biggest smallmouth bass I've ever had in my boat. Nearly 22 inches!

The bite continues to heat up on West Okoboji. Surface water temperatures were getting very close to 70 degrees today. A few walleyes are still hitting...mostly slot fish. We are catching Largemouth and a few Smallmouth bass along with plenty of GIANT bluegill. Many of our gills are 9 3/4 inches to 9 7/8 inches VERY close to the coveted 10 inches. In early June we had two 14 inch crappies (big for West Okoboji) and Kent Benning from Indianola, IA caught a Beefy 19 1/2 inch Smallmouth bass.
Its been a cold, wet Memorial Day weekend. But that didn't dampen our luck on the water. Ben Graham had an incredible day on the water with several walleye....the biggest 22-inches and released. He also had a nice batch or bluegills and a beautiful largemouth. Mike Clarkson and his dad had about 30 pike with a nice batch of gills and Elliot Lund and his dad had some great "Catching" of bluegills, pike and a nice walleye!
Crazy weather in May. We had a snow storm...and a record 100-degree day. Now the fishing is heating up. I helped with the Okoboji High School PE class and they kept 136 pan fish for a big fish fry. This past weekend three groups caught their fill of giant bluegills for a meal. Then after catching the pan fish each group caught at least 30 northern pike with a few walleyes and bass mixed in. One group caught almost 50 northern pike in just a few hours!!!
HERE ARE SOME GREAT PHOTOS FROM THIS MAY INCLUDING A COUPLE FROM OUR MAY SNOW STORM.
