Okoboji Walleye and Pike frenzy

Fishing has been Phenominal this past week in Okoboji. The weather has been windy and wet....but it seems like that's what the fish wanted. We have caught many limmits of "day-time" Walleyes and countless Northern Pike. Mike and Mike from Omaha caught 47 fish on Saturday afternoon May 21st in just 3-hours. Four were smallmouth, two were whitebass and the rest were walleye and pike. WOW! Of six groups this week....Most limmited on Day-time Okoboji walleyes between 14 and 16 1/2 inches.

Incredible Northern Pike Fishing!

Miserable weather today. 40 degrees and 25-30 mile per hour winds. Max and Chris Berg decided to tough it out. It's a good thing they did. We had the best bite all spring! 20-to-25 Northern Pike. Biggest about 7-pounds. Kept three Walleyes...That bigger walleye on the stringer is just under 17". Our biggest Walleye of the day was 21". Max says he caught so many fish his arms were sore. Mission Accomplished!Big Day on Okoboji

2011 Walleye Weekend

The 2011 Walleye opener here at the Iowa Great Lakes was a big success. Nearly 1300 people signed up for the Contest hoping to catch one of six tagged fish worth $10,000. There was, in fact, one tagged fish worth $10,000 caught this year.....but the angler who caught it had not paid the $20 entry fee to be eligible for the contest. Just sayin....the $20 donation to Easter Seals might have been worth the investment.

Water temperatures were colder this year. The first night my group from Lawton, IA only boated three Keeper fish and 8 smaller walleyes along with a 3.66 lb 19" smallmouth bass.
On Sunday morning we had much better success. All four of us limmited on Walleyes over 16" with one over 22".
We also caught several slot fish and some smaller fish that were thrown back.

Here's a photo of Don Feldhacker, his grandson Zack Reis and son-in-law Dave Reis with some beautiful Walleyes from this weekend May 7 and 8 2011
